Our
Impact
The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging is mandated by the Older Americans Act (OAA), to respond to the needs of Americans aged 60 and over in the local community with the goal of keeping seniors living independently in their own homes. Senior Centers are an excellent way to break social isolation by engaging seniors with their community, in a safe and enriching environment.

Senior Hunger
As the parish provider for Meals on Wheels, EBRCOA delivers meals to individuals at home who are unable to purchase or prepare their own meals.
Congregate (Hot) Meal Sites
“Senior Centers,” are open to all EBR Parish residents aged 60 years and older. These sites provide a daily meal, a wide variety of activities and programs, and most importantly an opportunity for older adults to interact and socialize with their peers in a safe and supportive environment.
I heard about all the good things that the Council on Aging was doing, and I was anxious to participate. So when I turned 60, I couldn’t get there fast enough. I come five days a week. I enjoy the meals; the staff is friendly and caring. Every one is a blessing to me as a senior. I go everywhere telling the story of the COA. People always ask me: Karen, now that you are retired, what do you do? I say I’m going to the COA. I don’t want to miss out on anything!
Karen Crockett – The Lotus Center
My mother was a member of the Council on Aging and received Meals on Wheels. Our family has been involved with the Council on Aging for many years and it has provided us support. I love the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging they are my family and they take care of me. They provide educational programs and make sure the staff gives us fun activities as well. They even provide medical equipment like walkers, canes and wheelchairs.

We are so grateful to have a center that I can attend daily. That I find enjoyable. The workers are dedicated and hard-working. They help me in so many ways.
Mary J Guidroz – Central Lotus Center
After my husband passed I was home alone, all day, and my children insisted that I attend a senior center. I started attending the Central Lotus Center, and I loved it. The people are so lovely.
