Baton Rouge, LA – February 1, 2018 – The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging (EBRCOA) is excited to announce that starting Monday, February 5, 2018 the agency will begin the rollout of its expanded Meals on Wheels Program. The agency is eliminating the Meals on Wheels waiting list that has been in existence since 1974. In addition, seniors in the Meals on Wheels Program will now receive meals seven days a week, instead of five days a week. Meals on Wheels food boxes include nutritionally sound meals comprised of a half-gallon of milk, fresh fruit, 7 slices of bread and healthy snacks that are pre-planned by a registered dietitian/nutritionist.
This rollout is a major component of the Millage Implementation Plan, a 2.2 million dollar commitment to the seniors of East Baton Rouge Parish. “This is a monumental change for seniors that are currently receiving meals and those seniors that are now moving off of the waiting list” stated Chief Executive Officer Tasha Clark-Amar. “Our seniors are extremely grateful to the citizens who voted for the tax millage and who support the agency’s mission.
