Baton Rouge, LA – July 19, 2018 – The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging (EBRCOA) is proud to announce the agency will be expanding their reach across the parish by opening six new senior centers. Senior Centers serve as a hub for the agency’s programing and will offer congregate (hot) meals, daily activities, education and fitness classes. The Grand Openings are as follows:

• Wednesday, July 25th at 10:00 a.m.:
  EBRCOA/ BREC Perkins Road Community – 7122 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70808
• Thursday, July 26th at 10:00 a.m.:
  EBRCOA/ BREC Antioch Park Senior Center – 6229 Antioch Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70817
• Wednesday, August 22nd at 10:00 a.m.:
  EBRCOA/ BREC Highland Rd. Community Senior Center – 14024 Highland Rd., Baton Rouge, LA 70810
• Thursday, August 23rd at 10:00 a.m.:
  EBRCOA/ BREC Ben Burge Park Senior Center – 9350 Antigua Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70810
• Friday, August 24th at 10:00 a.m.:
  EBRCOA/ BREC Flanacher Park Senior Center – 864 Flanacher Rd. Baton Rouge, LA 70791
• Wednesday, August 31st at 10:00 a.m.:
  EBRCOA/ Jewel J. Newman Community Center – 2013 Central Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70807

“Thanks to a mutually beneficial partnership with BREC, these new centers will serve areas of the parish we had not previously had the funds to serve! The EBRCOA is on the move and we invite seniors 60+ to look for a new senior center in your area! ” stated Board Chairwoman Jennifer Moisant. In addition, the agency would like thank Councilwoman Chauna Banks for her support as well as the City of Baton Rouge for their continued commitment to the seniors of this parish. With the opening of a full-site senior center at the Jewel J. Newman Community Center, the EBRCOA will have site locations at each Community Center located in East Baton Rouge. The EBRCOA invites area seniors and those who support seniors to attend the Grand Openings in their neighborhood.

“Since an important part of BREC’s programming focuses on senior citizens, it makes sense to collaborate to ensure that taxpayer dollars are being maximized and to rent the use of our buildings at times that they would normally be closed,” said BREC Commission Chairman Lloyd Benson. “We are optimistic that this arrangement will result in more seniors receiving healthy, nutritious meals and much needed social interaction in BREC parks across the parish,” said Benson.

Since 1973, the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging (EBRCOA), a 501c3 nonprofit supported by philanthropic donations and public funds (federal, state, and local), has served the seniors of East Baton Rouge Parish through a spectrum of nutritional and social services such as the nationally recognized Meals on Wheels program and over a dozen community senior centers throughout the Parish.
