We’ve expanded our impact significantly, becoming a vital force in the community. Our growth has led to increased job opportunities throughout the parish. In addition, we’ve expanded our presence with new senior centers, affordable housing, commercial kitchens, and administrative facilities across the parish. These modern facilities not only revitalize neighborhoods but also address the needs of our senior population while boosting local economies and property values.

HOW WE SUPPORT OUR SENIORS
The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging is more than a meal, nutritional services and social services. We help maintain the independence of the seniors of EBR Parish. We receive our funding streams through private donations, sponsorships, federal and state programs, totaling around $13 million annually.
HEALTH & WELLNESS
By providing timely access to critical services, seniors can receive the care and assistance they need to maintain their health and well-being. This is a heroic effort to ensure that seniors in the community are able to age with dignity and respect.
As many as 40% of older Americans have incomes of less than $6,000 per year. Having less than $25 – $30 per week available to spend on food makes it very hard to get a nutritionally adequate diet. We deliver 7 nutritional meals to each client each week.

SENIOR CENTERS
Senior centers provide a hub for seniors to stay active, socialize, and enjoy various recreational activities like fitness classes and art/crafts. They also offer essential services such as nutritional meals, transportation aid, and health screenings, enhancing the overall well-being of older individuals.

TRANSPORTATION
Lack of transportation isolates seniors, hindering access to vital services like medical appointments and grocery shopping. Our Council on Aging’s dedicated transportation department offers reliable solutions with a fleet of 14 transit buses serving an average of 168 daily riders. This service empowers seniors to stay engaged, independent, and connected, significantly enhancing their quality of life.

EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
Providing a diverse range of social, mental, and physical activities is key to supporting seniors’ cognitive and physical well-being and preventing social isolation. From art classes to cultural outings, these activities foster creativity, skill development, and social connections.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Access to affordable housing is a crucial issue in East Baton Rouge Parish. There is a lack of affordable housing for senior citizens. The EBR Council on Aging ensures that seniors have access to safe, decent, and affordable housing, including assistance with utility bill payments.
