What is the 2026 millage renewal?

The 2026 millage renewal is a continuation of an existing property tax that supports services for seniors in EBR Parish. The renewal does not create a new tax. It continues funding that voters have previously approved.

What services are supported by the millage?

Millage funding supports essential programs such as Meals on Wheels, senior activity centers, transportation services, wellness and health programs, caregiver support, and other services that help seniors remain independent and engaged in their community.

Why is the millage important?

The millage allows EBRCOA to continue providing services that many seniors rely on every day. These services help reduce isolation, improve health outcomes, and support aging in place.

What is the mission of the EBR Council on Aging?

The mission of the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging is to Support Independence ~ Serve Seniors.

Who does the agency serve?

EBRCOA serves residents of East Baton Rouge Parish who are 60 years old and older.

How is EBRCOA governed?

The agency operates under the direction of a board of directors and follows all applicable state and local regulations related to public funding, governance, and accountability.

Who has been responsible for ensuring that millage dollars have been properly used and monitored?

In 2017, the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging signed a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with the City. This agreement requires regular funding and performance reporting to the City. The Council on Aging, when asked, also provides updates to the City Council on Funding expenditures and performance. Lastly, the State of Louisiana requires annual audits, and the agency has received clean audits. The Council on Aging will continue its open-door policy of auditing and performance accountability to the city, state, and citizens of East Baton Rouge Parish.
