BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (11/29/2020) – As Governor John Bel Edwards announced on November 24, 2020, there has been an aggressive surge in COVID-19 in our area and the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging has positioned its operations to return to Phase II. Phase II operations will consist of providing all staff with a “COVID-19 Return to Work Plan” which outlines that essential employees will return to the office beginning Monday, November 30th.

The drive thru food pantry is open to all senior residents in East Baton Rouge Parish. Usually, the Lotus Food Pantry only services EBRCOA senior clients who are food pantry recipients; however, on Wednesday any resident 60 years or older can take advantage of this service while supplies last.
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (03/16/2020) – In an abundance of caution and to ensure the health and safety of senior participants and our staff, effective Thursday, March 19, 2020 we will be discontinuing the drive thru meal system at our senior centers. We will transition to home delivery of meals to all our senior participants.
The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging will be providing home delivered meals to 1,970 Meals On Wheels senior participants and 1,265 senior center participants. Each recipient will receive a 2-week supply of meals, including bread, fruit and snacks. In total, EBRCOA will be delivering 45,290 meals across East Baton Rouge Parish.
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (03/13/2020) – In an abundance of caution and to ensure the health and safety of senior participants and staff, we will transition to limited operations because we realize that our services are critical to the well-being of our seniors.
Effective Monday, March 16th, until March 30th, there will be no activities or congregating at our eighteen senior centers; instead Senior Center Site Coordinators will develop a drive-thru system at each site allowing senior participants to pick up a plated to-go lunch.
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (03/11/2020) – The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging regretfully announces the cancelation of our Annual Crawfish Boil that was previously scheduled for Thursday, April 9th from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm at the Capital City Event Center.
In previous years, the Annual Crawfish Boil drew over a thousand seniors. This year EBRCOA anticipated 2,300 seniors would likely participate. Because of the large anticipated participation, the cancelation of the Crawfish Boil is a precaution to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Lotus Rides launched on June 17, 2019. Operational a little over one month, the program has flourished and has been well received by the community. Baton Rouge, LA.- February 28, 2019 – The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging (EBRCOA) is proud to announce the agency purchased the Gus Young Fire Station located at 3820 Gus Young Avenue. The property will be the site of EBRCOA’s Intergenerational Center and used to promote the “Age-Less” Program. The mission of the “Age-Less” Program is to bring both seniors and youth of the community together for various activities or programs that increase cooperation and interaction between two generations.

The GAO is an independent, nonpartisan agency that works for congress to help the government save money and work more efficiently by examining how taxpayer dollars are spent.
